Prinknash Abbey Gardens Peoples vote Winner Cheltenham Christian Arts Festival 2020
I started painting this on a sketch meet with the Gloucestershire Society of Artists at the Monastery garden at Prinknash Abbey, Gloucestershire, early autumn 2020. I started to paint "plein air" but did not finish on the day and revisited the garden three further times as well as working on it from my studio.I wanted to capture something of the peace and natural beauty of this special place. My imagination took over and I tried to capture the garden in its full, restored beauty.I created small clay pears, butterflies and flowers to enhance the artwork and also added the words 'Eden', hidden on butterfly wings in the foreground.
To create the highly textured effect in the original I added some alabaster chippings ( Into the gesso layer ) I had collected these from a shop/factory workshop floor while I was on holiday in Egypt a few years ago. I love to experiment and to try something different and unusual.
To my surprise this artwork won the peoples choice on exhibition at The Garden's gallery, Cheltenham with Cheltenham Christian Arts Festival.
The original Painting has now sold ( Thank you! ) but I will have Fine Art Giclee prints for sale. I have also added this image to my greetings card range.
